    Hi,

Glad you are interested in my 1990 Volkswagen Westfalia. The camper has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, and has not been involved in any accidents. It only has 105,000 miles on it and the title is clear. I bought it when I was serving at Hill Air Force Base, Utah but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska for a 2 year period, so I do not want to let it rot in my backyard and therefore need a fast and reliable buyer. The camper is already at our Department of Logistics at Hill Air Force Base, Utah crated and ready to go. The shipping will be free for you because I will transport it using the internal transport system we have here at the Department of Logistics! The DoL will deliver the camper to the nearest Air Force Base from your area and from there I will use a tow-truck to have it delivered to your door. The whole shipping process will take 4-6 days. The financial part will be managed by eBay, which means you will have a 5 day inspection period before committing to buy the camper. In this way, both you and I are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. I would really like to get at least $9500 so if you are interested in making this purchase in a timely manner email me your: full name and shipping address, so I can inform eBay that I have a buyer! I will forward your details to them and then you will receive the invoice. Then you will be able to talk with them directly and ask all you want to know .

For more pics please get back to me as soon as possible!

    Thank you,

I need an experienced Vanagon camper enthusiast to buy my 1990 Vanagon GL full camper with nearly 200,000 miles. It has the original engine which I am told now has leaky cylinder head gaskets. It is a daily driver for me but everything I do is within a 5 mile radius of my house and mostly I walk or ride a bike.
I don’t want to sell this to somebody who does not know what they are getting themselves into. While this is a functional vehicle and camper it definitely needs some TLC and is a good candidate for restoration.
I bought it here in Albuquerque in 2006 with 145,000 miles for $7500 and I am ready to let it go for $3500.
Email me at geo650gs@yahoo.com and I’ll send some pics and answer questions.
    Thanks!

  12. I don’t have one for sale, but am looking for one as daily driver and for roadtrip in the summer
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1744623 I’m on the fence to buy this 82 diesel. It’s well-cared for with carfax report, 2nd owner very kind people and trustworthy. The only problem: At 11k mileage it may need major work soon. I read that 82 diesel is underpowered however test driving it, we could go 65mph on freeway, so I didn’t feel it’s a deal breaker. What do you think about the likelyhood of rebuilt work, and the asking price?

Secondly I just saw this 78 bus $6500 What do you think about the condition/value? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1744187

I’m in Florida. Again my goal is a daily driver, with the ability to go on a month long roadtrip up north. This will be my first VW and manual, but have lived in a 24ft class c motorhome full time. Myself can Not do any restore or repair work will have to rely on a mechanic shop.

    • I’m not that knowledgeable when it comes to anything air cooled or pre 1980. However that 82 diesel looks like a good deal, especially if it’s rust free, accurate mileage and clean title. It will be slowwww…. But might get upwards of 25mpg on the why(compared to 19ish with a gas wbx). That van would sell for $13k+ in California.

The Wolfsburg Weekender features an open and roomy interior, with a fold-out table, a plug-in fridge that doubles as a bench, seating for 6, sleeping for 4 (two on the fold out bench seat and two in the poptop), and ample room to cook and hang out with friends and family. Mechanically, almost every core component of this van was replaced or rebuilt during its first 100k miles of operation by the original owner. He purchased the van for $14744 in 1985 and put in an additional ~$15k of work over the next 100k miles, primarily at the dealer, including a rebuilt engine from Volkswagen at ~98k. All records are available. Purchased from a friend who bought it from original owner. ~85% highway driving for camping trips. The van has been extremely reliable, only routine maintenance has been required and it runs well.

    • Hi Michelle! Very nice looking Westy you have there. $24k might be kind of a tall order, though it is a very clean and well kept looking van. In order to get the highest offer out of this, here’s what I’d do. Take pictures of the undercarriage and suspension, upload a youtube video of the engine starting, running and driving, and do a drive by with someone standing on the side of the road with a video camera. Supply the VIN and order a title check from CarFax and Auto Check. Good luck!

  18. Hi,

I don’t actually have Westfalias at present but have something quite similar and would like to market them in the US. We import right hand drive Mitsubishi Delicas and Toyota Hiaces from Japan and would like to use your platform to advertise them in the US. We have finally managed to import some here to Canada that are eligible for the US market. Not sure if you would have any objection to advertising delicas as opposed to vw westfalia. If you check our webpage here at http://www.silkroadautos.com, you would be able to get a sense of what we deal with. Thanks in advance

  20. Hello,

The folks at MULE in Issaquah Washington suggested I contact you.

I am a dealer of wheelchair vans and have been in various aspects of the auto industry for 35 years. I am one of 5 in my family (beginning in 1953) who have operated in the industry in areas ranging from body shops and parts stores, to dealerships, to auctions and repair shops. I was very fortunate to acquire an 83 Westy a couple of years ago with intentions of paying to have it restored, because I have LOVED westys since I was a kid. I am now strongly considering selling it because my life goals and desires have changed. This is a VERY unique van, for several reasons:

    * I bought it from original owner and still have the original title (the van title has been in my dealership files, never changed into our name here) and so in some regard it is still a “one owner”.
    * desirable light blue color and largely original paint
    * very low original miles of apx 75k
    * was bought new at Hollywood VW in L.A. and was in that area until a couple of years ago when I brought it to Medford
    * have the original purchase contract
    * have original manuals and keys
    * bone dry, zero rust or beginnings or rust
    * no major accidents and is still apx 60% original paint
    * has auto and A/C (I realize some folks don’t want this, but for a city or traffic cruiser…awesome)
    * has never been disassembled, customized, modified or messed with
    * elements such as canvas, sink, stove, cabinets, refer, etc, etc. are very nice
    * has no body issues other than small dings, scratches, etc. But no dents, scrapes, notable damage

It has a fully toasted motor of some sort of internal nature which I am unclear about as I am not a mechanic, but the shop I use daily has told me the motor is toast . Mechanic presumes the trans is fine. It is a fantastic restoration candidate as it is intact, not wrecked, not rusted, not missing parts, not a mess in any way. However, it does need to be functionally and cosmetically restored to whatever level a person desires.

If this is of interest to your business or one of your customers, please feel free to contact me

  21. Please take a look at our site. We would love some attn from you guys and are also interested in some advertising.

    1989 Westfalia Vanagon Camper Van,
    Pictures at :http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1682247
    2.1 liter flat 4/ 175,000 miles/ rebuilt 30,000 miles ago.
A 3-window pop-top tent, 3-speed automatic transmission, power brakes, power steering, power door locks (front only), front and rear intermittent wipers, air conditioning and a snap-on screen for the sliding door.
And it already has many Go West options:
    16″ Tires & Wheels
    South African Mud Flaps
    Bilstein Shock Absorbers
    Refrigerator
    Dual LP Tanks
    Second Battery Kit
    High Powered Headlight Upgrade
    Headlight Protectors
    Fiamma F45 Deluxe Awning
OEM South African Leather Steering Wheel
    2″ Receiver Hitch
    Pioneer in-dash CD/MP3 player

    $ 20,000.

  23. 1985 Vanagon for sale this van has been well maintained driven little and I have worked through many of the issues that these vans run into due to their age. It has South African Rims and has upgraded 2″ lift springs and rides better than any other van I have been in. New fuel tank, rear heater core, radiator and hoses, propane tank, bumpers and custom tire carrier are powder coated brown to match interior brown, interior is a 8 of 10 (no tears). Exterior has two dents and is defiantly the reason for the lower price. The van has some unique things like power windows mirrors and a third row slide in seat.

There are lots of places to list your rig, including Go Westy, eBay, and the Samba, and of course CraigsList. As a viewer myself looking for a camper just like yours, the more photos the better! Show the bed folded out, show the odometer, shoot down the side so folks can see that it’s not been hit. Consider doing an iPhone tour & uploading to YouTube. Look at descriptions on westcoastsamba.org for examples of how detailed you can/should get. Mileage, auto or manual, any and all part replacements. etc, etc. A ’91 should run between $14K and $21K. NadaGuides, KellyBluebook and Edmonds.com sadly don’t help much. But looking at the Samba will give you a good idea of what to ask.

      Hope this helps!
      Patrick

  25. I hope this is ok to post this question here, but I want to buy a Westy and have no idea if this following van is a good choice or not. it’s a 1985 vw westfalia full camper $13500. The details on the post are as follows. Thanks for any advise. Mark
It’s a wATer cooled so this van never over heats, even when I travel to Arizona at 110 degrees . It’s a dream just look at the pics or come by to see it.
Engine has. 18 k since rebuilt by Bella mechanic shop in burbank( German mechanic only works on vanagon a and Porsches ) ($3200) it purrrrs
New shocks , ball joints, rubbers makes it smooth without any squeaking noises, love it.
New custom design pop top ( I hand picked this material it’s much durable and thicker plus it looks very cool with a brand new window in center.
2012 rims and tires off of vw beetle ( $1500) aligned, balance and adaptors put in.
New German made starter and brand new battery duralast with 5 year warranty.
New belts just changed 1k miles ago.
    Fresh fuel filter, water pump.
3 gallons of propane ready for cooking, and fridge to keep things cool plus ur small ice tray!
    Both tables front and back
Blue tooth, iphone USB stereo with 4 new speakers, it rocks!
19 inch tv and play station installed to watch and play video and video games (ps2 with fifa game)
Interior is all original , all curtains are there washed and pressed, no stain or rips at all on any seats bed …
All hook ups work, outlets up to 30 amp safe, water and propane.
All windows tinted 20% and all vw original!
No after market parts at all everything made in west Germany!
It starts with first try, it passes smog with very comfortable numbers, I always put 91 gas to give it more power and better mpg (20-22 fwy).
This gem comes with following items:
$300 vw car cover made in Germany
$80 heavy duty extension cords (60 amp)
Some parts such as brand new belts, fuel filters, wires….
You have to search for a while to find a nice well maintained (with docs) only 2 owners! (I know both of them) full camper.
Don’t waste my time or urs price if $13500 and I will entertain all offers above 11k so don’t call me with trades or low balling.
This can doesn’t leak, smoke, not has any problems at all.

  26. Hi Mike- Any thoughts on this Multivan? Its been on the Samba for a few months. Looks like quite a good deal, but maybe there a customs issue bringing a van into the US from Canada?

    http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1670529

    • I think (not totally sure) that because it’s not 25 years old yet, it’s a bit harder to import, even from Canada. I believe it can be done, but more work. I think you could also get a limited mileage “show car” type title and then when it’s 25 years old it can become a regular title.

  27. This looks to be a decent syncro and a good price..

    https://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/4680966748.html

  28. I have an ’86 Westy that I need to sell and am having a very hard time coming up with a reasonable price. It has 137K on the original drive train though the engine had a major overhaul at 90K and it runs very strong. No oil use and no manual transmission slip. The body does have some minor scrapes here and there, but it looks pretty great overall. It has a new set of 15″ wheels and Michellin tires and a new spare. It comes with a new Rocky Mt Westy heavy duty Twin Peaks rear bumper and swing away spare tire mount. Brakes are good with a new master cyl in the last 6 months. I replaced the fridge with a Go Westy cabinet. It needs a new LP tank. The fresh water tank pump works as does the stove once a new LP tank is installed. The canopy is serviceable but does need replaced at some point. Can you give me a reasonable range to work with???

    Fred

    • Hey Fred, great questions. First, where do you live, as regions play a major role. Any rust underneath or seam rust starting to show? Got any pictures? My first range guess by what you’ve told me would be somewhere between $10k and $16k, but that’s a wide brush right there. If you haven’t already, check out this list of recently sold Westys on eBay.

  29. http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/4660426501.html
    Here’s a find!
If not for the Automatic transmission I would have purchased this van yesterday.
    Best,
    JP

  30. This scam with an 89′ Westy is making the rounds on Craigslist: http://stcloud.craigslist.org/cto/4660599833.html It’ll be gone when someone hooks onto it. It then moves to another Craigslist region while they reel in the hooked. Once they proposed the payment (combination of third party eBay & untraceable money cards) I dropped it. The little voice in my head telling me it was too good to be true was hard to hear over that wannabe Vanagon-owner voice! I submitted the spoof to eBay, reported the phishing to Google and let Craigslist know.

  31. i sold this westy about 4 years ago, and just saw it listed on my local CL. i owned it for 14 years and took meticulous care of it. all work done by the top shops here in pdx. new heads in the 140 k range. it appears to be none the worse for wear and only has about 8k more miles than I sold it with ( if i remember correctly). has a plat cat heater which was great for winter camping.

i just got another westy in april this year, and wish i had known my old van was coming up for sale. would have waited.

    • I don’t know much about the country homes campers , but I’d say at first glance it looks nice. If the rebuilt engine was done right and it doesn’t leak and stays cool , as well as drives well, it’s an ok price considering it is a 1990 vanagon. Let us know if you go check it out!
