  1. 27K OBO 2001 VW Eurovan Weekender Westfalia Edition, 146k miles. We have owned this van for 5 years and put 50K miles on it traveling through most of the West Coast, Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona hitting almost every National Park along the way. Our Eurovan recently went through a service inspection and had 4K plus invested to fix all issues. Suspension work, new Brake lines and pads with fluid flush, and a Transmission service. This van has a great bill of health and work was done by Utah Imports, and Tip Top Transmissions. I have all records over the past 5 years of service which includes new plugs and coils, new A/C compressor and more. I think we are the 3rd owner. Upgrades include; Tires Yokohama Geolander 235/60/R16 , Go-Westy Fox Shocks, 1 ½” rear spacers by Cave Vans, 10 ft Fiamma Awning, Tinted windows, Linoleum Flooring (over original carpet), Go-Westy Transmission cooler, Pioneer with retractable 7 “ screen DVD/CD player with backup camera, Yakima roof carrier 3-bar, tow hitch with 2” receiver, extra battery under drivers seat. Van includes tire chains, rear hatch netting, insulated front window coverings, power windows and door locksmith 2 sets of keys, 2 rear facing passenger seats, folding table, factory cooler( needs repair, we never used it). Interior is in great condition. Pop top is in decent shape with some fading and small holes,( it looks the same as when we bought it 5 years ago and is fully functional ) full size bed up top and bench seat below converts into a Queen. Sleeps 4 comfortably. Exterior is in Great condition with minor scratches and wear around the bumpers and a small dent in the rear hatch from a previous owner.
Our Eurovan is Road trip ready and we will be using it this Summer until it sells. Our boys are getting taller and we have ordered a Sprinter van that arrives late this year.

We love this van, but are switching to a truck based camper, so we are sadly selling our van. This has been my daily driver & road trip van for the past 5 years. We’ve been across the country a couple times, and been on countless camping trips with the van.

Van is very reliable, starts every time, keeps up with highway traffic. Happy with the Subaru EJ22 engine. Handles mountain passes reasonably well, I try not to push it too hard when going through the mountains. Likes to cruise around 60/65 MPH. Awesome for camping, diesel furnace for warm nights.

The current list of issues is pretty small, but want to describe them all in detail. It’s always had an intermittent idle issue, which is slightly annoying, but not annoying enough to bring it to a mechanic. I’ve been fine with it. Van is unaffected when driving down the road. There is a knock when turning left and hitting the gas. Recently I had my mechanic look at it, and they said everything looks fine and did not recommend replacing the CV joints. Intermittent coolant overflow drips a little bit after parking. I’ve replaced it, but it still sometimes drips a little. Otherwise, the cooling system works fine, don’t have to add coolant, etc… No other leaks. Some seam rust, see photos. Tires will need replacing in the next 10K or so miles. This is my daily driver, these are the issues I was fine driving with.

Purchased in 2014 with around 170,XXX miles on it. The following work was done in 2014 prior to me buying the van
    – 1991 Subaru EJ22 KEP conversion (don’t know total miles on engine)

    – New General Grabber AT tires
    – New battery
    – New skylight
    – New tent canvas
    – New topper seals
    – Front spindles from 86 Vanagon (I think they will accept bigger brakes)

    – Reupholstered front seats
    – Removed insulation behind cabinets
    – Removed fridge & converted to storage
    – Removed propane & converted stove to small bottles
    – H4 headlights

Since 2014, I have added the following
    – Rocky Mountain Westy Twin Peaks rear bumper with hitch
    – House battery under driver seat
    – Yandina battery combiner (combines house battery to alternator when van is running)
    – Blue Sea fuse panel
    – Diesel furnace for heating while parked & sleeping, runs on house battery
    – JVC KD-X210 digital media receiver (No CD player, aux / usb in only)
    – 4 Pioneer TS-D1002R speakers + Dual brand subwoofer under rear bench
    – Radio & subwoofer run on house battery with dash power switch
    – Dimmable LED light strip above stove & sink, runs on house battery
    – Headlight relays
    – Starter relay
    – Diesel Volkswagen starter + adapter
    – Cupholder
    – Fire extinguisher
    – New Bilstein HD front shocks

    – New oil pan
    – Regular oil & filter changes with Rotella T6 synthetic & Subaru filters

    Van comes with
    – Tire chains for back wheels
    – EvoScan Software + USB cable – Reads Subaru Select Monitor I for engine diagnostics
    – Spare Parts
    – Bentley repair manual

    Spare parts
    – Subaru ECU
    – Subaru MAF sensor
    – Subaru knock sensor
    – Subaru alternator belts

  6. Hi, we purchased a beautiful 1984 Westfalia for $20k back in the spring and have spent the summer and lots of dollars making it better. It is a Subaru 2.2 conversion 4 speed with only 149 k on the bus, originally delivered in Germany and then from the west coast so no rust. It rides high like a synchro. Non original but gorgeous turquoise blue paint with black lower panels. So much is new . . . And it’s easy to spend money with so many parts available…
We’d like to break even at around $25k. Posssible? Going into storage in New Hampshire next week. The sad news is that we can’t use it to camp as it wakes up my wife’s latent claustrophobia.

  7. I’m currently selling this 1982, Westfaila Camper. Here is a description of an ad I have on I’d like to know if you’d be willing to post it on your blog and if you think I am asking too much or too little for it.

Only 75k miles on Tiico engine. My mom has owned the van for the past 21 years – It was previously owned by only one other owner who barley drove it.
