Here’s a sweet looking find that appeared on craigslist over the weekend, if you live in the SF Bay Area and you’re looking for a Westy, this is one to check out. This van is a 1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with two tone paint and the Wolfsburg trim. The van features stock 1.9L engine, stock manual transmission (replaced recently), no leaks, clean title and recently passed smog. The current seller is a VW mechanic that has done a majority of the recent work in the past two years which included quite a laundry list of usual fixes like… ; belts, bumper ends, clutch hydraulics, coolant pipes, flushed and renewed the coolant, power steering fluid, and brake fluid, front blower, front brake hoses, front brakes(shoes, rotors, and calipers), fuel hoses in engine compartment to and from the tank, fuel pump, fuel tank reseal, oil pressure switch, pop top and luggage rack seals, radius rod bushings, rear hatch struts, rear hub bearings, rear wheel cylinders, roof seal, several coolant hoses, shocks, side view mirrors, skylight, stereo(w/ usb and aux input), catalytic converter, thermostat, tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints and water pump.
The mileage is unknown, and there’s no VIN provided, so you’ll really want to do your homework here to ensure it’s everything it’s stated to be. It does appear there could be some seam rust brewing in the usual spot below the kitchen on the exterior, get a good luck at and understanding of this. In one of the photos it does appear to have a bit of a rear sag, which most Vanagons and Westys get. Many address this issue with the rear spring spacers, make your own out of cutting boards or buy a set at GoWesty for $40. Overall, this could be a a really great find for the Bay Area, especially if you can get the price down closer to $11k or $12k. Check it out in Oakland, CA with an asking price of $13,200.
