Rusty Bargain? – 1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper – $5k in Cedar Falls, IA

Here’s one with minimal details and a few photos, but if you’re looking for a running Westy for under $5k, this could be it.  Personally, I would never buy anything like this, though my first Westy was very similar and was bought on a whim from my neighbor because I needed a car. This is a 1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with likely stock 1.9L engine, stock manual transmission and 200k miles. The didn’t provide the VIN, but it would be nice to know the history, or if it has a branded/salvaged title.  The newer wheels, the awning, the dashboard and the pop top look to be in decent shape, though my main deal breaker would likely be what it looks like underneath, lots of salt on the those Iowa roads in the winters (I did my time there between 5th and 12th grade).  I also noticed it has ’87+ front seats, not the arm restless ’84 stock seats.  If you had the space and time, you could easilly part this Westy out for $3k-$5k, if not more. However, if you know someone with awesome welding skills who will work on a low budget, this could be a decent restoration project if you could talk them down to $3k or so. Craigslist Link
