Price Drop! – 1990 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper – 68k Miles – $17,500

I think I’ve seen this one for sale recently, and it looks like the seller has only updated the price field in their craigslist ad, and not the price listed in the copy.  Has anyone seen this van yet?  I wonder what it hasn’t sold?  This rig is a 1990 VW Vanagon Westfalia camper with supposedly 68,000 original miles, stock 2.1L engine, stock manual transmission and fully functioning kitchen.  In fact, the seller claims the kitchen has only been used three times? I wonder if they’re the original owner then? It also appears to have the 15in GoWesty wheels too, but otherwise looks mostly stock in the original silver paint.   The did provide the VIN WV2ZBO256LHO49057 so you can go do some homework.  It’s also got manual windows and manual locks, which is rare for late model camper.  The price in the title says $17,500, the asking price at the end of the description says $19,500 or best offer.  Find it for sale on craigslist in Klakamas, Oregon. 1. I do, honestly find paying 20 grand for one strange, unless was one with under 40k orig miles with nothing needed at all. But I believe there is Yuppies with disposable income willing to pay that down payment. 😉 Seeing they are constantly needing “something”. I DO love them, regardless. Great page BTW!

  2. Likely also a Salvage:

    title status : rebuilt

    • I missed that one, good call. I swear it wasn’t there when I first looked at the ad. They may have edited it. I think having the title report here would help explain some things. Also, do a search on The Samba for all 1990-1991 Westys and sort by price descending, ignoring the syncros and nice engine swaps, there are a bunch of these with asking prices way above $20k.

Any questions? WOW. At least the person spelled Loaded, Original, and surprisingly, “Refrigerator” correctly. That’s a pretty hard word. 😉

Front and Rear Heating, Sista! That must be what is the proper words? LOL. This is pretty awesome.

  4. Wowzers. Did you see the brilliance in the Ad? This is just a small sum of nothing but misspellings. “scraches on bodyand has been fixt no frame you can inspect the car to mecanic.” !

Would you buy a 20+ year old car from this person?

Also, it mentions just getting back from CA with it (clearly, they bought it for far less, and are just trying to flip it to the unsuspected.)
The shag carpet is also very Suspect.

I do not feel good about this one. Too much money anyway. Beware.

  5. Still seems like a a lot of dough. There are Westys available with only 25k more miles that easily sell for half the asking amount. I would find those a much better value, and room to repair the inevitable that is about the posses this one in a year or two of driving. That’s just my 1st take as to why it is not sold yet. Especially if they were asking upward 19 grand or more. I would not even take a look at it. Make sense?

    • I think the draw here is that it’s a 1990, with under 100k miles, and everything works. People in Southern California will pay upwards of $25k for something like that. If it was an 86 with 150k miles, sure it would probably sell for $15k or less.
