Overpriced Much? Stock 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper – $44k in Blythe, CA

It’s not that often I get inspired to post about overpriced vans, but this one just takes the cake.  I’m not sure what this seller is expecting, but they’ve listed a stock 1985 Westy for a whopping $44k on eBay.  What?  Other than a fresh engine, this van is nothing special and is likely not worth more than ~$15k.  So here’s the scoop.  All stock (sans stereo) 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia camper with fresh 1.9L engine, manual transmission, 127k miles, custom bumpers and a Fiamma awning.  Even if this van had 5k original miles, it wouldn’t be worth their asking price. $40k and up Westys are reserved for late model tricked out 1.8T syncros with all the fixins, not even an all stock 1991 with this kind of mileage would fetch anywhere near $40k.  There is a make offer option, but what you do you think it’s worth? I’m worried this might even be a scam, as I have a feeling the only photo they posted is a from a catalog and not that actualy van for sale. Any thoughts?  eBay Link

  1. Looks like a stock image from here: http://www.productioncars.com/dx5/press_photos3.php?make2=Volkswagen&model2=Vanagon

Maybe they need all the money so they can buy a camera of stuff they sell? I don’t trust engines with less than 10,000 miles on them anyway.
