This fully restored rig showed up on the eBay auction block about 4 hours ago and has caught my attention. It’s got a steep buy it now, but it’s a pretty nice custom looking low mileage job. This van is a 1982 VW Vanagon Westfalia camper with 52k original miles (possibly?) and a brand new 1.9L AAZ VW Diesel engine. The whole van has been recently painted, windows out, brand new seals, painted pop top, the whole 9 yards. It’s got an endless list of upgrades which make it look much newer than an ’82, including the headlights and bumpers, though the front seats are still the armrestless early 80’s style. The seller has a buy it now price of $27k, which in my opinion is a bit high, even for all the work that has been done. If the mileage is accurate, I’d say it’s worth at least $22k though. I’m not sure how much it’d be to bolt on the turbo, but it’s quite common with the 1.9AAZ and would give you quite a boost. There’s also a photo album with over 100 pictures here (link). I’m guessing their reserve price is at least $25k and we’ll probably see this van do a couple of rounds on craigslist and The Samba before it sells, though maybe not, it’s a damn fine looking rig. Check it out in Morro Bay, California with the auction ending on September 21st at 5pm PST. eBay Link
