Fresh & Clean! 1985 Westy Camper $10,000 in Novato, CA

1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper $10,000 in Novato, California

If this Westy is what it appears to be, it will be gone this weekend, but I figured I’d post anyhow.  This 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with a manual transmission showed up on craigslist yesterday in the San Francisco Bay Area with some nice looks and a low asking price of only $10k.  Aside from ten not that awesome but still worthy pictures, there isn’t much described by the seller.  No mileage, no VIN, but it will “cook scrambled eggs on the stove just like at home“. That paint looks pretty good and might not be the original color, so check up on that and looks for bubbled in seams and window seals especially. Otherwise, it appears to be clean, well kept and mostly stock and unmodified. $10k for a nice looking, driving and running Westy camper in the Bay Area will sell quickly. Craigslist Link

  1. 10k with a Grand or more of needs and 217k miles.. I’m sorry, there’s no bidding wars, here. More like manipulation. I wouldn’t pay 5 Grand. There’s other better deals out there.

  2. Oh – and there’s 217,000 on the clock and it stopped working a while back. Clutch felt like it was on its last legs….the rear left panel has been replced / resprayed. I called Paul at Valley Wagon works in San Rafael and he remembered seeing the van 18 months ago. He tells me that it needed CV boots, Slave cylinder and Tie Rods back then. Owner confirmed that hadnt been done. Also – it’s not been driven at all in 12 months, and its been “Non Op” status for a while, so be careful there’s not a tonne of back $$ in DMV fees. I think that this van needs $1000 spent on it immediately to get it up & running.

    • Thanks for the heads up! I’ve emailed them to see what’s up here.

  3. Be careful here. It’s not $10k – despite the Ad price.
I went to see this van in person – at $10k, at which point the owner said she was going to let it go to the highest bidder….
    Not cool.
