49k Miles! 1983.5 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper Auction in New Jersey

Happy Friday Westy hunters! Hope you’re all going to see some fantastic rigs this weekend, and that some of you make your first Westy dream acquisition a reality!  Here’s one you should definitely check out if you’re in the north east.  This van is a 1983.5 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with stock 1.9L engine, stock 4 speed manual transmission and only 49k original miles!  It’s got a fresh clutch, fresh shoes and is said to be ready to go and “needs nothing”.  While the seller did provide the VIN ( WV2ZB0257DH108599 ), their eBay account is fresh out of the free Auto Check report, so you’ll definitely want to verify the records and mileage with Car Fax or similar. The current owner says they are the 2nd and that meticulous records have been kept for most of the vans life and are included with purchase.  Find it in Williamstown, New Jersey with the auction ending Thursday, March 19th at 1:40pm PST. eBay Link

While the pictures are stunning and show an almost showroom condition Westy, there’s no mention if or how well the propane tank, stove, fridge, sink or water tank function. If I were selling this rig, I’d post YouTube videos of the engine starting and running, as well an “in drive” video. A specimen like this could be worth much more on the West Coast and if the details are convincing enough, someone might buy this sight unseen and have it shipped.

  1. After 58 bids from 9 bidders this auction ended with a high bid of $14,600, $3,400 less than the reported reserve price. Wonder where it will end up next?

  2. the reserve is 18,000

  3. Here’s what I recently received from the seller.

” As you suggested, I pulled Carfax & as expected, came up clean, but a little confusing as I don’t think that records were as detailed in 1983 as they are today. It shows arrival to dealership on 8/11/83, then vehicle purchase in Pa in 1988 with 34,061 miles.
You may have misinterpreted my ad in that I believe that I am the 3rd owner, not the 2nd. My mention of the 2nd owner was the impeccable records that he kept on it.
Unfortunately, I am not skilled enough on the computer to shoot a video & download it. I have more service records for the Westy than Ebay allows (limit 24 pics). It’s as nice as anyone should ever expect a 32 year old vehicle to be. I am having a new muffler system installed this next week. Being that I own an RV dealership, I put it through my prep department to be certain that all systems function as they should & everything checked out great as I expected based on the condition of the vehicle. Thanks again for your help in marketing my Westy”
