380k Mile 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper – $20,000 in SF, CA

While I’d have a hard time paying $20,000 for almost any car with 400k miles on it, I’m posting this as a testament to well cared for Vanagons when their odometers continue to function.  I know there are likely Vanagon’s out there with a million miles on them, but this is one of the higher recorded mileage Westys I’ve seen for sale in a while.  This well traveled adventurer is a 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with 380k miles, stock 2.1L engine (rebuilt 10k ago), stock manual transmission(rebuilt at some point) and appears to have aged very well over the years.  Aside from a rebuilt engine, the van has also received the following attention in recent years; 02 sensor, air filter, brake fluid, brake flush, clutch kit, front braes, various seals, Bilstein shocks muffler, pump and water pump.
The only pictures of the interior are of the front seats and dash, the rest of the interior is a mystery at the moment. I’m guessing the stove works, as they feature the propane value in the ad, however I doubt the fridge has survived that many miles of bumps. They didn’t provide the VIN, so we’ll likely try some arm twisting to get the real scoop from them.

I think $20k might be a tall order, but $16k might swoop this van up quickly with the bay area prices on Westys these days.  What do you think?  Going to see this van?  Tell us about it below, or add whatever banter you feel might help others in their quest.  You can also comment on this Westy in the individual discussions on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Google+.

    Is this still available

  2. Once you are over 150,000 miles it is irrelevant IMHO. It looks like all the high wear issues have been addressed.
