UPDATED! So it turns out this same seller sold a Westy (this one) a couple of months ago that supposedly had a new engine, then it blew up on the new owner when he was driving it home. The thread on The Samba is here. Soooooo. Buyer beware with this one.
Here’s a nice van up on the auction block in the great Beeehive State that seems like a reasonable price for a late model syncro. This van is a 1991 VW Vanagon Synrco (AWD) Westfalia Multivan Weekender with 190k miles on the chassis, 2.1L engine, stock 4+1 manual transmission. This speciemn comes with some of the bare bones stuff I like, including manual locks, manual windows, manual mirrors and no A/C. The 2.1L engine is fed by a dual carb, rather than the original fuel injection, however the wiring harness is still intact if you ever wanted to bring back the computerized side of things. It’s not the original paint, which can be a bit worrisome as you don’t know what was underneath, and the seller says it isn’t the greatest paint job. One of the CV joints is going bad, the odometer and speedometer don’t work, and it’s got some other bumps and bruises, but a late model Syncro Westfalia in working order for under $20k is a good find almost anywhere. This van is available in Provo, Utah with a Buy It Now price of $18,950, and the auction closing on Friday June 20th. The current high bid is $10k, with the reserve price not yet met. eBay Link
Sold for $13,500 with 28 total bids from about 8 different bidders. Hope it works out! Great deal on a syncro for sure.
