UPDATED 1/28/14! The seller has dropped the price from $16,000 to only $12,000! The listing on The Samba still exists, but the van is now also listed on craigslist and GoWesty classifieds. I received photos from the seller (see them here) of the minor dents, rust and body work. The seller states they didn’t have any bites at $16k, so they dropped it to $12k and have had a lot of interest since.
Aside from what appears to be having quite a tan (sun faded), this looks like a good deal on an upgraded 1990 Westy available in Tuscon, Arizona. It’s got the 2.4L GoWesty motor with the 5 speed transmission, which would cost well north of $15k to buy and install all that. It also comes with an upgraded clutch, upgraded brakes, newer tent canvas and an awning. Van comes with 206k miles on the body, 81k on the motor and transmission. The paint looks rough, however there doesn’t appear to be much rust. The seller wants
$16k, which I think is fair price if the engine is tight and there is no rust. While most of the 1990 vans have power mirror and locks, the pictures and description don’t show which set up this van has. I’m a big fan of the manual stuff, mainly because the powered stuff is known to have regular issues. As always, I’d ask the seller if this van has ever been to burning man. Gotta look out for playa dust.
