1989 VW Vanagon Westfalia Syncro Tubro Diesel High Top – Auction in New Jersey

UPDATES! See Comments Below The Post.

OK, so this is odd.  First we get this imported turbo diesel syncro up for sale/auction in New Jersey, now there’s an almost identical high top version for sale by the same seller?  I’m confused. The auction for the earlier one, said no reserve, closed at $32k, but then was relisted on The Samba for $44k.  At any rate, I need to get a hold of this seller and see what the full scoop is here.  This new van is a 1989 VW Vanagon Westfalia syncro 1.6L turbo diesel high top with 43k original miles and a clean title (VIN WV2ZZZ25ZKG087122) with “spotless” CarFax and AutoCheck reports, which are not provided.  Since a 1989 passes the 25 year rule, I guess it isn’t too hard to get these shipped over from Europe and registered in the US.  For starters this van is the Club Joker model with every option available. It’s got an extra big turbo with an intercooler, central and rear locking diff (I guess this means you can’t independently lock the front?), big brake kit, front and rear skid plates, big bumpers, South African grill and headlight kit, coach battery, Hella lights on a bull bar, tire carrier with extra jerry can and all kinds of other bells and whistles. You’ll want to upgrade the old school stereo head unit though. The auction ends Sunday October 26th and 5:45pm PST. eBay Link / Photobucket Link

I was going to bid on it and did a vin check history on it lot a red flags history shows it was never imported but it came from Europe. shows the odometer was never changed but it was. also he told me he had it for a year but title shows it was done about 6 weeks ago. there are M code numbers the first three numbers are 253 that’s for a Kombi not camper it should be 255. he still has it listed on Samba for 49,995.something not right some where

  2. So bidding ended at $42,900, I wonder if we’ll see it relisted on eBay or taken off The Samba? It’s still listed on The Samba for $45k.

  3. A savvy eye has spotted a 2wd speedometer and some other discrepancies with this rig. Find the conversation which is likely to continue over here on The Samba by user SyncroDoka.
