Up for auction on eBay just outside St. Louis, Missouri is this 1988 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with stock rebuilt 2.1L engine, stock manual transmission, original (likely) white paint, original pop top tent canvas and some overall decent looks. The seller states all the kitchen appliances work, though no photos or notes regarding the propane tank. There is some seam and window area rust starting to take hold, which is definitely going to detract from the final sale price, however it doesn’t look to be too bad in the photos provided. There’s one fuzzy photo of the undercarriage, but it actually looks ok. An aspect the seller fails to mention (but may not even be aware of), is that according to the free Auto Check report on the eBay listing, the mileage went off the map about 10 years ago, so there’s no way to know or verify how many miles it actually has. Originally from Utah (while dry desert style, there is salt on the winter roads), this Westy has lived between Oregon and Illinois for the last decade and is said to have been garaged regularly by it’s current owner. If this van runs and drives well with no leaks or coolant system issues, if you can snag it for $8k or less, it’s likely a bargain. The eBay auction ends on Saturday December 20th at 7:41pm, PST. eBay Link
A Note For Potential Buyers: This sucks for the seller, but the mileage became inaccurate about a decade ago, and unless they can figure out how to rectify it (sometimes these can be in error), anyone doing a title check on this rig will notice the discrepancy. That could knock the price down by more than 25%. Also, be sure to check for rust underneath and elsewhere, some of the window rust issues can become expensive.
