1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper – No Reserve Auction in Bellingham, WA

Here’s a mystery to solve for you Monday.  This nice looking 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper went up on the eBay auction block this past weekend.  The quirky thing I noticed was on the eBay title check report from Auto Check, which recognizes this VIN as a syncro? ( wv2zb025xhh026257 ). Can anyone else confirm here?  The seller does go to some good lengths to describe this rig, so not sure why they missed this?  According to the details, it’s got great compression on all 4 cylinders and had the head gaskets done around 50k miles ago, with the odometer currently reading 182k. In 2002 is was reportedly in an accident, but the title is not salvaged, so it likely was too bad. The van was also repainted after than incident and now has raptor bed liner around the rocker panels.  The seller states the entire van, including undercarriage are rust free. The stove, propane and fridge are all said to be in working order. Check it out in Bellingham, Washington with the auction ending Sunday, March 8th at 5:23pm PST. eBay Link

If this is just a 2wd Vanagon, I’d say it will fetch in the $17k range, if it’s really a syncro, add another $10k or more.  I’m going to email the seller and see if we can’t get a better read on what’s going on here.

Got some words of wisdom to share? Have any insights on the VIN/Title/syncro question?  We’d love to hear it all and then some. Leave your banter in the comments below, or head on over to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Google+ and share your thoughts there.

  1. Not a Syncro, gas filler is in the 2wd spot.

    • Good call. I was more curious as to why the auto check report had syncro listed. Maybe all of them are like that, just hadn’t noticed it before. Seller of course stated it is a 2wd.
