1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper Auction In Davis, CA

1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper Auction In Davis, CA Ends August 10th

Often times Westy sellers will list their van on craiglist and The Samba with slightly “pie in the sky” prices, then after minimal nibbles, they’ll send it over to the eBay auction block, and hopefully with a reserve price lower than what they were originally asking for.  This van showed up on The Samba with an asking price of $25k back on July 20th, then on craigslist a few days ago for $22,500, and now on eBay with the auction ending on August 10th around 7pm PST.  It’s hard to say what the any van is really worth, however due to the upgrades/repairs and new paint job, this one probably has quite a lot invested into it.  This 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia camper features a rebuilt 2.1L engine with ~43k miles, 233k miles on the clock and a long list of work done over the years.  While there’s no specifics on when the work was done, the seller lists well over $15k in investment by my estimate, this includes new paint and the motor upgrade.  Unfortunately due to the mileage and year, they might have hard time getting more than $17k for it, but at that price it would likely be a very good investment if it is taken care of. Chck it out in Davis, California. eBay Link  The Samba Link   Craigslist List

  1. Surprised to see it back up on Davis CL for the same price prior to the auction. Was watching it on eBay and was very curious what the reserve was.

BTW Mike, my wife and I have been scouring the web for Westfalias for the past two month trying to find the perfect one. I finally came across your website a few weeks ago and love it! Thanks for the resource. We’re in the SF bay area so maybe we’ll see you on the road once we find the perfect van.

    • Thanks for the kind words JT! Best of luck in your Westy quest. Glad you’ve found my website resourceful.

  2. After 47 bids from 14 different bidders, $10,600 wasn’t enough to clear the sellers reserve price, so we’ll likely see it back on the market again soon.
