1986 VW Westfalia Camper w/ new Subaru 2.2L & new transmission – San Diego, CA – Auction Ends February 7th 8pm PST
Freshly posted up on eBay in San Diego, California, this salvage title Westy appears to be in epic condition. The seller claims the title was salvaged because it was stolen at one point, the full auto check report is available via the eBay auction page. I’ve never heard of a title being salvaged because the vehicle was stolen, but I’m not an expert on the topic either. According to my initial research I’ve done, it is possible for this to happen. According to the listing, the Westy has 110k on the clock and only 3k on a 2.2L Subaru and new transmission with a taller 3rd and 4th gear. To have a shop do all this work correctly, you’re looking at close to $20k. If everything is true about the description and appearance of this vehicle, this is about as good as they come, especially if you’re looking for a turn key long term investment. I’d be sure to get all the records and paperwork before putting down the coin, but otherwise this is an epic van. Bidding starts at $25k with the auction ending Friday Feb 07, at 8pm PST. I’m guessing the reserve is closer to $30k, but you never know until you try (or ask).
It would likely be a sweet deal at $25k, I wonder what the reserve price is? Or maybe it is $25k?
An insurance company will consider a vehicle a total loss if not recovered over a certain period of time (from theft) or if there is more damage than what’s worth repairing (sometimes it’s not much at all.) I’ve bought vehicles that were stolen /salvaged and bought back vehicles that I’ve crashed, states require them to be in working condition before a salvage title will be issued. In other words, I’m sure it’s fine.
