I spotted this 1986 VW Vanagon Syncro Westfalia Weekender today up for auction on eBay, with no reserve price, worthy of fresh post indeed.
First off, lets talk about mileage. While the seller states the true chassis mileage is unknown, providing an estimate 235k, the eBay Auto Check title report shows the van could have north of 400k miles on it. It appears to have been registered in Alaska for most it’s life, with a few recent years in Airzona. Currently donning Arizona tags, this syncro is for sale in Los Angeles, CA. Be sure to get a CA smog check before buying if you plan to also register it in CA. The seller states it’s had a fresh repaint, and Alaska winters, they’re harsh on vehicles. Interested buyers should try to get before/after photos of the paint job.
Aside from what’s above, this could be a nice all stock pop top syncro at a great price. It’s a weekender, no kitchen, but they’re much lighter this way sans cabinets, fridge, etc. Added bonus is that does have a rear locking differential, along with an upgraded stereo. The seller mentions it has an Audi engine, but as far as I can tell, it’s a stock 2.1 wasserboxer.
The auction ends on Tuesday February 24th at 6:54pm PST. What do you think the high bid will be? Let us know in the comments below, or head on over to this post on Facebook or Instagram and share you banter or wisdom there.
