This 1985 Westy auction in Florida ends on February 15th and bidding is currently sits at $9k, with an unknown reserve price not being met. It is a single owner van with a clean carfax report(which isn’t provided), a nice Alpine stereo, standard 4 speed manual transmission, the complete camping packing, and most interestingly, a jump seat to add a 5th passenger. Otherwise this van appears mostly stock, but also in great condition. It’t too bad the seller is providing more details and records here, as it would likely increase interest. As an example, the listing states “Recently completed exterior restoration”. That could be $500 worth of work, or $8,000 worth of work. I’ll reach out and see if they’d like to add more details.
It’s definitely a nice specimen for the east coast, congratulations on your purchase. I’m slightly jealous of your jump seat. I’d also ask if they have a record of the fuel tank and lines being resealed. I bought an ’85 with 120k on it and took it straight on a road trip, got horrible gas mileage, then later after I got home, I realized it was because I was spilling fuel down the freeway.
If everything works flawlessly, it’s the original engine, there is 0 rust, nothing leaks, etc. I’d say it’s worth no more than $12k UNLESS they had it professionally repainted recently, then you could maybe add a couple grand. The problem is, they don’t go into details with the “full exterior” restoration. Make sure to get a copy of the CarFax report, and get full details on the restoration work. If the engine is original, and has 158k on it, my guess is it won’t last much longer. I’d suggest getting a compression test on it first. Also, it appears to be missing the propane tank? Unless it was placed somewhere else?
Thanks mike. I ended up getting it for 13k , I asked about the propane tank he said its on it. I think the paint looks pretty decent from the pics at least. I guess I’ll see when I pick it up. There’s some vans on the west coast I would probly have picked over it. But being able to drive home was a big plus. There’s a lot less of them on the east coast. I’ll let you know how it goes when I get it. Thanks for your help.
I was the last bid on this but didn’t meet reserve. Thinking about making him a offer. How much do you think it’s worth?
I know what your saying about the paint. Please let me know your thoughts thanks.
