1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender $3,000 in Mendocino, CA
Here’s what looks like a reasonable priced running Westy fresh on craigslist last night. This van is a 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender with a reported 150k miles, stock 1.9L engine, stock manual transmission, and it runs! All for only $3,000. The listing states that is has not been registered since 2008, so there could be some back registration fee$ the new owner will have to deal with, and there’s no word if it has passed a smog test(required to sell in CA). It has some dents, rust, bruises and needs a new tent canvas, however the seller says it runs “like a champ”. Plan to invest some $$ here, but you might be able to drive it away for only $3k. A note to potential buyers: You probably shouldn’t buy this unless you are good friends with a VW mechanic, or you have the time to tinker and learn how to work on these. If there’s too much structural rust, then even $3k may not be worth it. However, clean it up, put a new tent canvas in it, and turn it into a guest house in your yard or driveway.
