1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Full Camper For Sale In Easy Bay, CA For $5,200

UPDATED: It was reposted here for $4,950 yesterday.  Slashing prices.

This afternoon I came across this van for sale on craigslist in the East Bay / San Francisco area.  Why so cheap? Salvage title.  However, if you’re ready to roll up your sleeves to conquer some rusty seams and willing to take a risk, this looks like a relatively well cared for Westy for only 5 grand. It’s got 160,000 miles on the clock, those sweet Van Cafe bumpers, an awning, good wheels, newer tires.  Here’s what I’d ask the seller if I were considering this van.

  • Get the vin to check the full history and see if the odometer reading is accurate.
  • Knowledge of the incident branding it with the salvage title?
  • Is the frame straight?

With any Vanagon, Id ask if you could drive it around for 15 minutes and see how hot it gets, as well as if it leaks any fluids.  If it passes the test, it’s probably worth at least $5k.  These can be a money pits at almost any price, however this van puts on a good show in the pictures.  If I only had $5k and really, really wanted a Westy camper, this could be it.  Being that it is for sale in a prime region, it will likely go quick.
