1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper w/ 3.3L Subaru SVX – $20,900 in SF

I’ve been working on a new feature for the website that will hopefully make finding that perfect Westy a bit easier.  I built a system that searches all 413 US craigslist regions for the keyword “westfalia” in the cars and trucks for sale category.  It is a work in progress, and I hope to have images and a variety of sorting features soon. Check it out here.  Today’s first Westy is one of the better deals I’ve seen on an SVX conversion as of recent.  However, my main concern with this would be whether or not all of the engine parts were used so it could be California CARB compliant and pass an emissions test.  While it is for sale in California, the vehicle has Maryland plates on it. This orange specimen is a 1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with 140k miles on the chassis and 90k miles on a 3.3L Subaru SVX engine.  The van sits up on Porsche 911 993 rims and tires and may (or may not) have a bigger brake kit installed, the listing was kind of vague. This van is also rigged up nicely with solar power, including two 100 watt panels connected to a PWM charge controller and an 85 Ah deep cycle battery with a 600 watt inverter.  It sounds like the current owner has had it less than two years, as some of the more recent fixes were said to have been done by them. At any rate, the listing states that the van has recently received a new starter, new alternator, new timing belt, new water pump, new thermostat, new stainless steel coolant pipes, new radiator, new GoWesty LED headlights and a great sound system. If the conversion was done properly and it runs well, this is a decent Westy for the price.  It’s hard to find a nice SVX conversion for under $20k, however this is a 1984, one of the oldest Westys I’ve seen with an SVX powerplant. Find it for sale in San Francisco, CA for $20,900. Craigslist Link
