1983.5 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper Auction in Costa Mesa, CA ends 12/28

Here’s a sweet 10 day auction that just launched on eBay last night.  If you’re in the Southern California area, check out this 1983.5 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with stock 1.9L engine, stock manual transmission and 135k miles.  The eBay seller is actually a company called Performance Vintage International located in Costa Mesa and they appear to mainly deal with exotic 30+ year old European cars, however this nice looking Westy has found it’s way into their inventory.  It looks like someone has taken quite a bit of time to fully restore this van, though specific details are provided.  I don’t believe white was a factory option in the 1983.5, and this paint job is definitely of recent. Aside from what appear to be the original rear bench seat and bed cushions, this rig looks totally restored.  There’s no mention of an engine rebuilt, however the pictures of the engine bay show either a brand new engine, or someone went through the whole thing with a toothbrush, and it looks factory new.  There’s definitely a newer propane tank and regulator, and the front seats from an ’85 or ’86 Vanagon.  White the seller did provide the VIN ( wv2zb0251dh082551 ) , they’ve used up their free Auto Check reports with eBay and did not provide any kind of title report, though the brief Auto Check summary shows only 3 records found, which could mean this is a one or two owner vehicle. Car Fax could help you get the full scoop here.  While the seller does provide some very detailed pictures, there are none of the undercarriage or suspension.  There’s also no mention if, or how well, the stove, sink and fridge work, which again shows they’re not that up to speed when it comes to selling Westy’s like this.  All things considered, they will honor a buy it now price of $16,995, and if this van drives and runs as good as it looks, it likely a very fair price.  The eBay auction ends on December 28th at 9:52pm PST.  eBay Link

  1. After 28 bids from 10 bidders this Westy auction closed at $14,251, which to me seems like a very reasonable price considering the location and condition.
