1983.5 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper – $5k in Seattle

UPDATED 9/12; This was purchased by a reader of WFS, see the comments below this post!

If this post is legit, this Westy has likely sold already, but you never know…  Up on craigslist late last night is this 1983.5 (first water cooled) VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with stock 1.9L engine, stock manual transmission and unknown mileage.  The seller provided just a few pictures and states there’s “no rust”. The pictures show the odometer reading 145k, no rear cushion, and possibly carpet over the rear bench seat. It’s got some dents and brusies, and could definitely use new pop top seals.Judging by the way the print on the headlight switch is worn, this van has likely seen more than 145k miles.  I almost think this listing is a scam, however there’s some faint glow of hope in me that it’s real and someone’s going to get a nice deal today. I’m going to drop them an email and see if they respond.  In the meantime, check it out on craigslist in Seattle, Washington with an asking price of only $5,000. Craigslist Link

No discription of the working parts (Which is what matters most) painted over okay, but pics blocking odometer and what pics shown are only with all doors and doors closed-up…sounds like a scam!

  2. AWESOME! Congratulations Steve! While it looks like your Westy could use some TLC, I think you got a deal! I was wondering about the white, as I don’t think that was an option in 83/84.

I am the proud new owner of this 1983 1/2 Westfalia! The body is bruised and banged up and its been badly rattle canned white over the original color orange. The pop top fabric is gone and needs seals top seals. The interior has no original cushions and there is house carpet glued in with what looks like to be liquid nails everywhere. The previous owner said he never tried the appliances. The tires are a four of a kind. The drivers seat has been replaced by a dodge caravan seat. The positive is that i’ve finally got a Westfalia!
