Here’s what could be a great project van, especially for someone in California looking to do a Bostig conversion or other non CARB compliant engine swap. This van is a 1982 VW Vanagon Westfalia diesel camper with automatic transmission and 140k miles on the odometer (likely not accurate). The sellers says the engine currently resides outside of the van, but otherwise looks to be in decent shape for only $4,000. It does have some seam rust, but also has a custom rack on the pop top, along with what looks like a newer 3 window canvas tent. I don’t usually see the early diesels with automatic transmissions, I’m not even sure it was an option. The auto check on eBay shows an estimated 3 owners, but that the mileage might not be accurate. Upstairs doesn’t look too moldy, and the interior looks to be in decent shape. Aks for some undercarriage photos, and if it all looks decent, make them a $2k offer and pay $1k to ship it to California and have it tidied it up with a new engine and some body work. It’s always a can of worms, but my guess is this guy just wants it out of his garage, especially if it’s engineless at the moment. The buy it now price on eBay is $4,000, but there’s also the “make an offer” button. eBay Link
