Fresh! 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper in Atlanta, GA – $15k

1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper in Atlanta, GA

1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper in Atlanta, GA - $15K

This specimen is a 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper that was originally the UPS brown color (like mine) that has since been painted a bright/lime green color with black bedliner around the rocker panels. It reported has just under 100k miles and comes with the stock (possibly original) 1.9L engine and manual transmission.  The seller states that it has been garaged since new and they are the 3rd owner. Aside from the pain, rack, window tint, spot lights and tent canvas it appears to be mostly original and is said to be rust free. The dash, pop top, interior, engine bay and everything else look to be very clean and well cared for.  I think the main drawback is honestly the massive sticker job.  In fact, this is how I got my Westy for so cheap, no one wanted it because it was covered in stickers, inside and out. However this one appears to be mainly on the rear hatch window and hopefully wouldn't be too hard of job to remove.  $15k is a tall order for a mechanically original 1985 Westy in the south east, though if they did a real $5k+ windows out paint job and there's no rust, and the title checks out, you might have a sweet find here.  The sellers state they are rock climbers and are moving up to a full sized travel trailer. Check it out in Atlanta, Georgia.  Craigslist Link  - The Samba Link

If I was interested in this Westy, I'd find out how much they spent on the paint job (receipts), get all the records, get the VIN and do a Car Fax check and make sure the mileage is accurate.  Do you have any thoughts or words of wisdom in regards to this find?  Share in the comments below, or head on over to the discussion on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Google+ and rant away!

Clean! 1988 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper w/ 98k Miles - $15,500 in Colorado Springs

BOOM! Here's what looks like a sweet find that showed up yesterday on craigslist in on the front range in Colorado. This van is a 1988 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with stock 2.1L engine, stock automatic transmission, original blue paint, power windows, sunroof in the pop top and aside from some nice looking wheels, it appears to be completely stock and unmolested. There's no mention if or how well the propane, stove, fridge and sink work, and seller didn't provide the VIN.  Other than that, if you're in the market to spend $15k on a Westy and live in Colorado, this is definitely one to check out.  Find it for sale in Colorado Springs, Colorado with an asking price of $15,500. Notes For Potential Buyers: Get the VIN and do a title check at CarFax to make sure the mileage and history is accounted for.  Make sure to go over the Westy Buying Tips page as well.

Notes For The Seller: Great looking Westy!  If I were you, I'd add the VIN, a CarFax report, pictures of the undercarriage, pictures of the dashboard and a YouTube video of it running and driving.  Driving I-25 during the holidays is never fun, so unless you plan on selling it to someone in the springs, the more alluring details you can provide here, the more likely folks will come from elsewhere to check this rig out.  Good luck!Read More About This Westy

1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender Wolfsburg – $15k in New Jersey

1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender Wolfsburg - $15k in New Jers

1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender Wolfsburg - $15k in New Jersey

Happy Monday fans! So, the first Westy this week has a bit of a higher price tag, but I'm drawn to it for a few reasons.  This rig is a 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsburg Weekender with 126k original miles, stock 1.9L engine, stock 4 speed manual transmission and is overall pretty much stock and original with the exception of a new stereo system, 16" Mercedes CLK Wheels (nice!) and a new power steering rack.  The seller claims the van is 99.9% rust free and has been "babied" most of it's life.  The auto check report shows a little funny business with an odometer reading, but I'm not sure what to make of it as it appears it could have been a mistake.  The van has lived in Ohio most of it's life, but in more recent years has been in the New York area, and currently has Jersey plates.  The original tent canvas looks to be in good shape and the owner mentions something along the lines of it being recently "waterproofed".   I think this Westy is worth at least $10k, with the current Buy It Now price of $15k being a bit on the high side. However, some things to consider here are: 126k miles, no rust, east coast and look at that perfect uncracked dashboard.   So, there's likely someone out there that may be willing to drop $15k on this if it's exactly what they're looking for.  Go check it out in Princeton, New Jersey and/or make the seller an offer via eBay. eBay Link

1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper w/ 2.2L Subaru Engine - $15k in SLC, UT

UPDATED! Now an eBay Auction ending Thursday, Oct 30th.

Posted just a couple hours ago on craigslist is this 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia camper with freshly rebuilt 2.2L Subaru engine, manual transmission and unknown body mileage.  In the last year it's gotten a $1,000 sounds system upgrade, solar panel setup with inverter, new BFG tires, brakes all the way around and new curtains.  There's no mention of how the engine swap was done, so ensuring it will pass smog in California is a big question here.  It looks like it's got some seam rust brewing, but is in otherwise decent shape, and has some nice tinted rear windows as well.  It does come with a tow package, so I'd ask the seller what they towed with it.  Anything more than a few bikes is probably not a good idea.  However, if this is a legit Subaru swap, everything works, and it drives well, $15k isn't exactly a high price, at least for the West Coast.  Check it out for sale in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Craigslist Link

1982 VW Vanagon Westfalia - 1.9L Turbo Diesel - $15k in Minnesota

While I'm a bit weary of any Vanagon pre 1985 or so, some of these are still really great finds, and one of those could be this one that showed up for sale on The Samba last night. This rig is a 1982 VW Vanagon Westfalia camper with a relatively fresh 1.9L AAZ Turbo Diesel engine, manual transmission and some good looks for it's age.  The seller states that all the kitchen appliances work, the upper control arm bushings were recently replaced and that a buyer could "drive this van anywhere".  No mention on the actual MPGs, however most vanagons with with a good turbo diesel and road tires will get close to 30mpg on the highway, much better than the 19mpg most of us get with stock wbx gas engines.  It has definitely seen a fresh coat of paint in it's days, and it's also got an updated 3 window tent canvas.  The seller did provide the VIN WV2ZG0258CH103962 so you can do your homework on it's history.   I think the asking price might be high for the region, but would probably do well on the West Coast. Check it our for sale on The Samba in Redwood Falls, Minnesota with an asking price of $15k. The Samba Link
