Here's a fresh looking find in Southern California that appeared on craigslist last night.  This reasonably priced specimen is a 1989 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with 168k miles, 3k miles on "another" (rebuilt?) 2.1L engine, manual transmission and some overall well kept looks.  The seller states the sink, fridge, stove all function and the pictures show a very clean interior, uncracked dashboard and clean engine bay.  Other than some rust spots here and there, could be a very nice Westy for their low asking price of $13,500, which will likely garner significant attention.  They didn't provide the VIN or any other history, so you'll definitely want to check up to ensure it's got a clean title with accurate mileage. Find it for sale in Santa Monica, California. Craigslist Link

As noted in the comments below, it's got Kansas plates, so make sure it passes smog check in CA before buying!

  1. Seller just bumped the price to $15,500…
Not great business practice, but i guess they were inundated with responses and think they can get more. It’s all about the Smog at this point.

  2. It’s running Kansas plates…so….not sure how easy this one is going to be to get smogged and registered here in CA.
    Any comments?

    • In order to sell it in California, it has to pass smog first…. Or is that only CA owner -> CA owner? Good catch, I didn’t notice the plate earlier.

      • I just checked DMV. It’s the owners responsibility in CA to SMOG a vehicle before a sale. The issue is that this van registered in Kansas…so there would be a negotiation I suppose, with the current owner….to get it CA smogged. Then, I guess it would be the Buyer that would need to do the leg work to get it CA registered. Wish it wasn’t tricky…This looks like a decently priced rig.
